At Gary Staple Fine Woodworking we believe that a craftsperson has an important responsibility. Throw-away culture is ever present in our society. Through careful and thoughtful design, combined with an exceptional standard of craftsmanship, we can create something with an inherent sustainable nature. Combining traditional techniques, modern equipment and process design principles we create furniture that will be enjoyed for generations.

The Story

Gary found carpentry in his twenties, and immediately felt his calling. He apprenticed under several well-seasoned craftsmen and carpenters, and later started his own contracting company - True East Carpentry. After eight successful years as a carpenter, he moved to Scotland to attend the globally renowned Chippendale International School of Furniture. There he honed his skills and flourished as a craftsman and designer. He graduated in 2014, and was awarded Student of the Year.

Today, Gary and his team work in Seaforth, Nova Scotia, out of a retrofitted barn completely powered by solar - designing and building furniture, cabinets, staircases and other bespoke commissions. As craftsmen, they aim to counteract society’s throwaway culture with thoughtful design and exceptional standards. Combining traditional techniques with modern equipment and process design principles, they create heirloom furniture that will be enjoyed for generations.
